Big Lonely Doug is a Douglas-Fir tree that was saved by a logger Dennis Cronin. He wrapped ribbon around the tree while surveying to prevent it from being cut-down. It’s claimed to be the second largest in Canada after the Red Creek Fir in San Juan Valley. It was named Big Lonely Doug by photographer and activist T.J. Watt around 2014. The road to get here is a bit rough, I would not consider taking a rental car, maybe an SUV but ensure your rental agreement covers forest service roads (many don’t).
Location
As I’ve mentioned above, it can be a bit of a rough forest service road and I do not recommend rental cars to travel it as they also may not be insured. It’s approximately 35 minutes from Port Renfrew but much of it is gravel road.
